Reflection for live day

Summarise your role?
My role today was to be the floor manager. i had to communicate with the director throughout the whole process of filming. i had to give the directors instructions he gave in the gallery to everyone in the studio and made sure everyone knew what they was doing. I  also had to hold up cards telling everyone what to do.

What difficulties did you have?
The difficulties i had was at the beginning it was hard to get everyones attention so i had to give instructoins that the director gave a number of different times to everyone in the studio, but after the first run through i over come this difficulty. another thing is that moving around was quite hard because of all the equiptment and all the wires on the floor. and finally another difficulty was that it was very hot in the studio and this made it hard to work.

What solutions did you find for these problems?
i overcome people not listening to me by speaking louder and shouting when people didn't listen. i also repeated myself so people heard. this was effective because the people i was working with started to listen and kept quiet most of the time. i overcame the problem of the wires by taping them down to the floor so it was hard to trip on them or get your foot stuck on them. this worked because there was no accidents involving wires. and finally i overcame the problem of heat by wearing shorts and having water after every run through.

What skills do you think you have gained?
The skills i think i have picked up on are communication skills such as talking and listening. also being a good team worker also i think i gained the skill of explaining stuff and giving out instructions. the communication skills i gained was because i was constantly talking to the director and passing his words on to everyone in the studio. and throughout the hole time i had to be a good team worker in order for all work in pre production and production to be completed.

What advice would you give someone about to undertake your role in a live studio?
the advice i would give to someone doing this role would be that they would need to work on there communication skills because their is a lot of talking and listening and if you do not pass on the message from the director the none will know what to do. another piece of advice would be to be confident because if your not confident you wont be able to talk to everyone easily and none will get messages.

How could you expand on your role if you did a studio show again?
i would expand my role by trying to give more advice and help to everyone in the studio and giving some of my ideas to the director rather than him planning out on everything. and finally i would learn the script more so i kn ow what camera the show is going to come back on after VT's.

signs

for my role in the task i was given signs to hold p when filming to give out instructions because you are not allowed to talk so i made some more that might of been abit more helpful for example time signs saying how long left of the show we had and i also made signs saying 'give erisa' 'give govs' 'share it' these were made because there was only mic between two guests so they had to pass it on when the camera wasnt on them and they also had to share it for the quiz.

Props list

This week alysia who is the set designer was not in there for me and sam had to do her tasks for her so as a group we did not fal behind. I did her props list for her of all the props we needed and i went to go and see if we could get all the props that we wanted and to check if they were available for us.

set preparations

Me and the direcor and my teacher planned out what the set was going to look like and we agreed that the best thing to do was to have musical instruments in the set. this was because it stopped the set from looking boring and it also added to the musical element. so i went to the head of music and asked if i could burrow a list of musical instruments which consisted of an acoustic guitar, and electric guitar, amplifier, saxophone and a piano. the teacher then said i could borrow these props on the day. a week later i then went back to the music teacher asking if i could use a music room as storage because we needed to store all of the tables and chairs so we was working in a safe enviroment. after we had stored all the chairs and tables i went back to the teacher asking if we could use the musical instruments earlier so we could do rehearsels with the instruments in the set. and the head of music told us to come the day before and collect everything.

production reflection meeting-4

Summarize the key points you made this week within your role?
This week i had finished all the tasks i was assigned to do so i was just improving them and setting up the studio with everyone else and putting duck tape on the floor where all the equiptment was going to go. i also went around and asked a music teache rif i could borrow some instruments for the set. and finally because alysia wasnt in i done one of her tasks which was to make a props list.
What was the groups response to your ideas/progress?
me and miss came up with the idea to have musical instruments in the back round as it is a music show and the whole group thought it was a great idea so we all went along with it and planned out what instruements we wanted and why.

What has been successful this week?
This week i helped alysia and done one of her weekly tasks which was to make a props list. i also made arrangments with a music teacher on borrowing some instruments and putting tables and chairs away in storage in one of the music rooms. i also put duck tape on the floor where all the equiptment would go so everyone knows and we also filmed an interview with one of the guests so this gave us a little taster of what the actual live day would be like.

What do you intend to do next week?
This week i intend to make final arrangements with the music teacher on getting the props wee need and bring them to the room where we will do our live day. and as a group we intend to do a couple of run throughs of the whole show and film all the footage that needs to be filmed as a vt before hand.

How did you work with your hierarchical peers this week? was it effective?
I worked with the director (sam) this week alot because i had finished all my tasks and so did he so we worked together thingking about the set design and doing alysias wor because she was not in. i felt it was effective because we got quite alot done together relatively quick.

risk assesment

Production meeting reflection-2

Summarize the key points you made this week within your role?
This week i found out who's show we was going to use and make, and i found out we was going to use Shriya's. because i was not in the last lesson i didn't get to hear everyones ideas for their shows so the first thing i did was go to Shriya and ask her what her show was about and what she had planned in it. i Then had to do a risk assessment for the studio and write how we could overcome the risks in a studio. in total i had 10 risks and i got these by setting up the equipment in the studio that we would use and having a look at any thing that could be a risk. once i had finished that i had a little discussion with the director who was sam and the set designer who is Alysia and we spoke about what the studio was going to look like for when we was going to film. I then drew a sketch of what the whole studio floor was going to look like and what the gallery would look like.

What was the groups response to your ideas/progress?
The groups thought on my ideas were good because sam and Alysia didn't know what to do with the seating arrangements for the guests and presenters so i suggested that we use two directors chairs for the presenters and a sofa for the guests. they took that into consideration and decided to use that idea. The group also thought my progress this week was good because i got nearly two of the three jobs i needed to get done finished.

What has been successful this week?
This week i successfully completed my risk assessment of the studio which is important because i had to identify what could potentially be dangerous to everyone in the studio and i found a way to overcome this. And i also drew a sketch of the studio floor plan and the gallery so my group knows what the studio will look like on the day and where they will be working. i just need to re do my plan on fireworks so it looks clearer.

What do you need to change or develop and why?
I need to change my studio floor plan just incase the group decide to change the layout and i need to re do my floor plan on fireworks so its clearer and so i can post a picture of it on my blog.

What do you intend to do next week?
Next week i intend to finish my studio floor plan which shouldn't take to long because it is 90% done and then i need to start making call sheets for everyone so i have a way to contact everyone in case there is a problem. that shouldn't take to long either because it is very quick to do. and finally i need to put duck tape or masking tape on the floor where the cameras are going to go and where people are going to stand and also if necessarily the route people will have to walk in.

How did you work with your hierarchical peers this week? was it effective?
This week i worked with the director and set designer. i felt this was very effective because i wouldn't of known what to do without them. they helped me establish where everything was going to go so i knew what i was going to include in my studio floor plan.

Production meeting reflection-1

This week i was not in school the day when everyone had to pitch their ideas for a music show so i did not get to pitch my idea and i also did not get to hear everyone else idea. However i found out what job i would be carrying out and that was the job of being a floor manager.

Treatment

Programme format

My show is going to be set up like soccer am. Although it isnt about music i will use the same style with how they plan out the show the layout of the scene and competitions but change the football theme with music. I have chosen to make my show around this because i enjoy wathcing it and think that they running order is good and so is the studio layout.

Title of show

 Music morning.
The title of my show is music morning. I have chosen to call it this because it in the title it says everything about the show which is that its a music show that is on in the morning. Also the title is quite catchy and easy to remember.
Content ideas

One idea is that there would be an interview with a guest on the show. they would talk about the artists most recent song, previous songs, what their lifestyles like, future ambitions and have a general discussion. this would show viewers what the guest is really like and show more of their actual personality.

Another idea is that there will be a music top to chart. so the presenters will recap what the top 10 for the previous week is and then talk about the current top 10. This will iform viewers how current artists are doing and what songs they have it will also help with the music element of the show.

Another idea is a whos hot and whos not question session. because both presenters are girls they would talk about things like this and it will show the audeince what couples are together and wll give the audeince to chance to chose whether they thhink the celebrity relationship is 'hot' or 'not'. The presenters will then read out the results of this and also give their opinions.

Another idea is that there will be a live call in where the public can call in and ask any questions to the guest. this is a good way to interact with the audience and it also helps the presenters in case they run out of any questions. the only problem for this would be that it cant be live so they call ins would have to be pre recorded and then inserted into the footage after.

Running order

  1. starts of with the presenter walking towards the caemra outside the location that the filming is going to be done. and the presenter is walking towards the camera explaining what is going to happen in the show (30 seconds)
  2. The opening sequence happens (30 seconds)
  3. starts off with the prsenters welcoming everyone to the show. (30 seconds)
  4. talks about whats happend over the week with themsleves to the other presenter (3 minutes)
  5. talks about the music news over the week. (3 minutes)
  6. special guest comes on the show and is interviewed (5 minutes)
  7. music chart top 10 (10 minutes)
  8. whos hot whos not (3 minutes)
  9. Live call in  (4 minutes)
  10. presenters say bye and give a little clue what is happening on th show next week. (2 minutes)
  11. credits. (30 seconds)
Studio design
The design of the studio would be what u typically expect to see on a show like this. Their will be two directors chairs for the two presenters and a sofa for the guest. Their will be a little table inbetween the presenters and the guest to show that they are not together.

Sketch of background
The background of the studio will just be a wall with a poster in the middle with the programmes logo. Their will also be some other posters of some music artists to show the show is about music. this will be to show more elements of music. also their will be the logo of the show on mugs that the presenters will have and also on the bacl of their clipboards.

Visual style
There will be three cameras but only two camera operators so each camera will be set up in different positions. their will be one camera in the middle and it will be set up in a long shot position so that we can see most of the studio and the two presenters and the guest. This will show the audeince what the surrounding looks like.
There will be another camera set up in a mid shot position facing towards the guest so that we can see their facial and body expressions when answering questions. it will also show clearly who is talking.
And finally there will be a camera set up in a mid shot position filming both prsenters. This will also show facial and body expressions of both presenters and show clearly who is talking.
The style in which this is edited will be quite simple as it will just be cuts from mainly two different cameras. for example the camera will shoting the two prsenters when they are talking then cut to the other camera filming the guest when they respond. The middle camera that is set up in a long shot position will be used wehenever the presenters are talking to the audience. when the show starts in the beginning and the two presenters are in the studio the long shot camera will be zoomed out and it will zoom in while the prsenters are talking untill it is in a perfect position. and then when the showing is ending and the two presenters are saying bye the middle camera will zoom out. Righ at the beginning when one of the presenters is briefly tellng the audience what is happening on the show outside the studio the camera used to film that will be the camera that will be filming the guest because the guest will not be coming on untill later on in the show so it gives a little time to put the camera back into position and set it up, where as the other two cameras are going to be filming straight away.

Presentation style

There have been two presenters chosen for this piece of work and they are Morgan and Shriya. They both are very talkative so they can talk about alot of things during the show and they are good friends so their is chemistry between them. Also they can talk to anyone because they have that skill so they could get a good interview out of a guest that may appear on the show. So the presentation style would be very conversational like they ae two good friends just having a general conversation.

Assignment 1 the basics

Lots of different genres of television shows use multi camera format for many different reasons. i am going to talk about the practical and aesthetic reasons why shows use multi camera format. The seven different genres i am going to talk about are Live sport, concerts, Public Events, Game sows, Chart shows, Magazine shows and talent shows.

Live

Live sports

Live sport use multi camera format because it is live and not pre recorded so they people in charge of the show have to make sure they capture every thing while it happens therefore its benefitial they multi camera format. A practical reason for using multi camera format is that because where they are filming is such a big location they cannot have one camera go around the hole location it would be more practical if they had many cameras in different areas of the location filming. for example in this clip the location is huge so they would need more than one camera o get shots from each part of the location.
Another practical reason for using multi camera format is that you can get audience reactions and with single camera format you cant. this is because with single camera format you would have to film the main footage rather than the audience and being able to show audience reaction gives more realism and looks better for the viewer because it feels live. for example in this clip when the Brock Lesnar returns immediately the camera shows shots of the audience to show their reaction.

Aesthetic reasons for this would be that having more than one camera in a big location looks better and because its live you cant go and film shots again. so for example in this clip you see shots from in the ring, the ramp, the stage, the audience and facial expressions of the two main characters. this makes it more interesting and eye catching and it also tells more of a story for the viewer because they can see the location and what is going on at different locations at the same time as well as it being live.
Another aesthetic reason is that multi camera format enables the viewer to see audience reaction. this makes the live footage feel as if you are there for the viewer at home and also makes it more engaging for the audience. also in this clip it makes the viewer understand how important and exciting it is that this wrestler has returned because it shows the audiences reaction and this just makes the footage look so much better.

Concerts

A practical reason for having multi camera format at a live concert is because in concerts the artist preforming often tends to move around alot or dance or maybe even have dancers, and one camera is not going to capture what the artist and the dancers are doing at the same time. this is why it is important to use multi camera format especially in a live event where you cant go back and film stuff that has been missed.
Another practical reason for using multi camera format is that you can see other things that are going on apart from the performance. using one camera to capture other things that are going on would look unprofessional.

An aesthetic reason for using multi camera format is that it looks better when the person is dancing to have different angles or shots and movement. its more eye catching and will engage the viewer more and it is difficult to do using only one camera.
Another aesthetic reason for using multi camera format is that showing other things that are going on apart from the preformance saves the footage from becoming boring because they wont be seeing the same thing through out the whole length of the show. so this makes the footage look better and it can only be done using multi camera format.

Public events

A practical reason for using multi camera model at a public event is that there may be a number of different locations used. for example in this clip it is a funeral and there are many different locations used such as the road and the route to the church, inside the church, and the cemetery. it is more practical to have more than one camera for this type of programming because taking one camera around to this many locations is hard and trying to get good angles for each shot will be extremely difficult.
Another practical reason is that so they dont miss anything because it is live so they can have cameras on the main subject which is the funeral but they could alsoo have cameras on people to see their reactions, other things to do with the funeral or decorations. this way they will have shots of everything.

An aesthetic reason for using multi camera format is that for example the journey the car takes to move the coffin from the church to the cemetery would be quite boring and the viewer may switch off if it is one shot throughout the hole journey so they would have a number of different cameras filming the journey from different angles.
Another aesthetic reason why they would use multi camera format to show different locations and decorations is so that the footage looks better with lots of camera angles, shots and movements with a wide range of different locations.

Studio

Game shows

A practical reason why this show uses multi camera format is that the scene is quite wide and one camera wont capture the whole scene properly. it also wont be as effective because it will be hard to identify who is speaking and also we will not be able to see facial expressions.
Another practical reason why this show uses multi camera format is that so each camera can show, each table, the host, every contestant and the audience. this is so it shows clearly who is talking. also it is impossible to show each of these people live when they are speaking with just one camera.
An aesthetic reason for using multi camera format and showing each person talking is so it more engaging and exciting for the audience because they will be able to see who is talking and when and they will be able to catch reactions from other contestants as it happens and finally they can see everyone facial expressions. it would be extremely difficult to catch all these moments using just one camera live.
Another aesthetic reason for using multi camera format is that using more than one camera and cutting from host to contestant when questions are being asked is more effective and will be more eye catching for the viewer. it also goes with what is going on in the show because it will keep the camera on the speaker.

Chat shows

A practical reason for using multi camera format in a studio is that they will have a wide variety or camera angles and shots for each scene so when it comes to editing it to make the final piece they will have a good choice in shots. also on a show like this one the conversations are on sensitive topics so they will need more than one camera on each person to show facial expressions or body language.
Another reason could be that because its in a studio and its live they will want more than one angle of everything that is happening so when they edit its more adventurous but because it live they cant record the same thing twice so they will need multi camera format in order to get a wide range of camera angles and shots for each moment.
An aesthetic reason for using multi camera format  is that by having a wide variety of different shots for everything that append when recording they can edit it to make the show look more eye catching and keep the camera on each person that is talking by cutting to the person that is talking when they talk.
Another reason is that when having lots of different angles to show body language and facial expressions this will show the audience how the person feels and the audience want to see how they feel when answering questions about their lives so this will show them how they feel and it will make the viewer feel as if they are seeing it with their own eyes.

A practical reason why talent shows use multi camera format is because they may have more than one location for example in Britain got talent they have around five. outside in the ques, inside in the ques, backstage, in the waiting room and on stage. And it will be hard to get all these locations filmed live with just one camera.
Another reason is that they will want to capture everything that happens so they will have more than one camera filming the act in case it shows a what they are doing in a better angle. they cant go and film the act again and get a  shot from a different angle because it is live.
An aesthetic reason for showing more than one location and using more cameras is that it shows the audience the set more so they can visualize and imagine what it is like their. they can also go on the journey from outside the arena where the show is held to preforming the act.
Another reason  they may use multi camera format is because if they show better angles of what is happening live the audience will be able to see and understand and get a better view of e what is going on on the stage.
